The recent U.S. aggression against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela—manifested in airstrikes on vital and military facilities in the capital, Caracas, alongside reports of the kidnapping of the Venezuelan President and his wife and their removal from the country—once again reveals the true nature of the U.S. imperialist system. It is a system based on imposing will by force, violating state sovereignty, and subjugating peoples through military might, blockades, and organized looting whenever they attempt to break free from the circle of obedience and dependency.
What is happening in Venezuela cannot be read as an isolated or exceptional event. Rather, it is a direct expression of the structural crisis of U.S. imperialism and its constant quest to reproduce its shaken hegemony over resource-rich regions, foremost among them oil, through direct military intervention after the failure of its other tools, such as sanctions, economic blockades, political pressure, and masked coups.
Historical experience has proven, without exception, that imperialist interventions never aim to protect peoples or guarantee their rights. Instead, they aim to subdue nations and forcibly reintegrate the targeted countries into the system of global capitalist exploitation, serving the interests of major monopolies and transcontinental corporations. In this context, the aggression against Venezuela constitutes a flagrant attack on the Venezuelan people’s right to self-determination and their right to live in safety, away from the constant threat of force and collective punishment.
We, in the Revolutionary Left Party in Syria, affirm that the right of peoples to defend themselves in the face of imperialist aggression is a legitimate political and historical right, imposed by the very nature of the aggressive imperialist world order, which recognizes only the logic and balance of power. Based on our people’s experience with imperialist occupations and interventions, we declare our clear and explicit solidarity with the Venezuelan people in their struggle against the dominance of the U.S. imperialist war machine, and our support for their right to protect their sovereignty, resources, and future.
Glory to the struggle of the peoples against imperialism and to the popular resistance. Defeat to all projects of hegemony and looting. All power and wealth to the people.
