The counter-revolutionary authority, the Thermidorian regime, claims to be organizing new parliamentary elections on October 5, 2025, for a parliament consisting of 210 seats. 140 of these seats are to be elected by electoral bodies and sub-committees chosen by the head of the authority, and 70 by direct appointment by him, under a temporary transitional constitutional declaration, in addition to the postponement of elections in As-Suwayda and the areas of the Autonomous Administration east of the Euphrates.
However, beyond the official cosmetic language, what is happening is nothing but a desperate attempt to legitimize the counter-revolutionary authority.
The parliament intended to be formed is predetermined by the interference of the executive authority through presidential appointment, similar to the shadow lists closely linked to the security apparatuses in the Ba’ath era, which strips the process of any democratic meaning.
The exclusion of vast areas and the postponement of voting in them reflects the continuation of the policy of exclusion and dividing the people.
Furthermore, the imposition of electoral bodies and sub-committees controlled by the regime’s security apparatuses turns the elections into a meaningless play.
Real elections cannot be reduced to ballot boxes alone; they presuppose, first and foremost, freedom of expression and organization without restrictions, an independent judiciary and media, and guaranteeing the participation of all Syrians, inside the country and in the diaspora, without exception or fear. Also, any political process isolated from the social and economic demands of the masses—such as justice, services, the return of refugees, and ending marginalization—is nothing but a cover for perpetuating the power of the ruling minority.
Therefore, we in the Revolutionary Left Current in Syria consider these elections a false, formal step that grants no legitimacy and opens no path to change. We call on the popular masses and political forces to organize themselves to resist this reactionary authoritarian authority, towards building a decentralized democratic republic that recognizes pluralism, enables people to directly manage their affairs from the grassroots, provides bread, freedom, dignity, and equality for all the Syrian people, and achieves the sovereignty and independence of Syria, free from occupations and despotism.
Our position is clear:
Either genuine, comprehensive, and transparent democratic elections, linked to people’s rights and needs, or a conscious revolutionary boycott that exposes the regime and transforms popular anger into organized pressure in the streets, factories, universities, and neighborhoods.
Syria will not be saved by forged elections, but by the organized free will of the people.
All power and wealth to the people
