سحبت دار فايار الفرنسية كتاب «التطهير العرقي لفلسطين» للمؤرّخ الإسرائيلي المناهض للاحتلال إيلان بابيه، بنسخته المنقولة من الانجليزية إلى الفرنسية. أُرفقت صفحة الكتاب على موقع الدار بعبارة «هذا العمل ما عاد متوفّراً للبيع».
مكتبة «بوان دو جور» الفرنسية سألت الدار عن سبب «اختفاء» الكتاب، فأتى الجواب أنّ «حقوق النشر منتهية منذ 27 شباط 2022، وأنّ الدار قرّرت، في 3 تشرين الثاني، وقف تداوله». بين التاريخَين المذكورَين، 21 شهراً، ما يثير تساؤلاً حول سحب الكتاب فقط ما بعد الحرب، وهي الفترة التي شهدت أكثر من نصف مبيعات الكتاب لهذا العام.
يتناول الكتاب التطهير العرقي لفلسطين، والتخطيط المُحكم الذي سبق النكبة، قبل أن تبدأ الأعمال العدائية المُباشرة. يركّز الكاتب على الإدراك الإسرائيلي المُسبق بوقوع تهجير الفلسطينيّين الجماعي، مستنداً إلى الأرشيف الإسرائيلي وتصريحات مسؤولي الصفّ الأوّل آنذاك. نُشر الكتاب عام 2006، بالإنجليزية، عن دار «وان ورلد بابليكايشن» في لندن.

FAYARD PUBLISHING STOPS SELLING HISTORIAN ILAN PAPPÉ’S BOOK
French publishing house Fayard has withdrawn the French translation of The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine, a book by Israeli anti-occupation historian Ilan Pappé, from the market. On the publishing house’s website, “the book is no longer available for sale.”
When Point du Jour, a French bookstore which had sold all its copies of the book, inquired why it was no longer available, Fayard replied that the book’s copyright expired on February 27, 2022, and the publishing house decided to remove it from circulation on November 3. The 21 months between the two above dates raise the question of whether the book was withdrawn only after the war on Gaza, knowing that over half of the book’s sales in 2023 occurred after October 7.
The book tackles the ethnic cleansing of Palestine and the elaborate planning that preceded the Nakba, before the eruption of direct hostilities. Pappé focuses on Israel’s awareness of the mass displacement of Palestinians, documented in Israeli archives and the statements of top officials at the time. The book was first published in English by Oneworld Publications in October 2006.
