What took place on Sunday, December 28, 2025, during the massive popular protests by the Alawite community—rejecting the ongoing massacres and sectarian violations, most recently the terrorist bombing of the Imam Ali bin Abi Talib Mosque in Homs—reveals once again the true nature of the ruling Thermidorian authority: a power that lacks any social or electoral legitimacy, relying solely on the reproduction of violence, repression, sectarian incitement, and the unleashing of its chauvinistic terrorist mobs to confront any independent popular expression.
The General Security forces and their sectarian “shabiha” attacked peaceful demonstrators using live ammunition, beatings, and torture. This brutal violence resulted in several martyrs and wounded, providing further confirmation of the authority’s systematic approach of terror against the Syrian people.
This was accompanied by despicable media mobilization campaigns aimed at treasoning peaceful protesters, labeling them as “remnants” (fulul), and stripping their movement of its national and legitimate character. They were accused of carrying arms and inciting sedition, in a vile reproduction of the methods and discourse of the defunct Assadist junta. Meanwhile, the slogans of the peaceful protesters were directed equally against the repressive and discriminatory policies of the ruling Thermidorian authority against Alawites, and against the criminal and fallen Assad regime.
The Revolutionary Left Party:
- Affirms its full support for the right of the Syrian people, in all their components, to freedom of expression, protest, demonstration, and striking, as well as the right to form parties and unions.
- Salutes the legitimate, just, and heroic peaceful struggle expressed by the participants in the Coast protests, despite the repression and threats.
- Condemns in the strongest terms the authority, its apparatuses, its sectarian arms, and its mobs of shabiha who practice loathsome sectarian terrorism under the cover of fake legitimacy and false national unity. We also condemn the desperate attempts by traditional figures and remnants of the fleeing criminal Assadist junta to hijack the brave struggle of the masses for their own benefit, and we call for confronting them firmly.
What the ruling authority is practicing today is not “maintaining security” as it claims, but organized violence to protect a bankrupt repressive structure and monopolize the country for a new junta. Therefore, confronting this reality is not through begging or betting on an authority that only knows repression, but through: organizing from below, building independent popular frameworks, unifying the struggles of the oppressed against repression, sectarianism, and exploitation, and building a seasoned political leadership to achieve a decentralized democratic republic where all Syrian people live in freedom, dignity, justice, and equality.
In the face of injustice, there is no neutrality. In the face of repression, there is no silence. Glory to the struggles of the oppressed masses, Shame to the Thermidorian authority and its tools, Mercy to the martyrs, and a speedy recovery to the wounded.
All Power and Wealth to the People
