A force from the Israeli occupation army penetrated the village of Beit Jin in the western countryside of Damascus on Monday and opened fire on residents who tried to prevent it from advancing into the village.
Control over Tal al-Labbat
A special source in the area reported that forces from the Israeli occupation army penetrated the Mount Sheikh (Hermon) area, explaining that a force of 100 members infiltrated the outskirts of Beit Jin village and its farm, near the Al-Labbat Al-Warda area overlooking the village.
The source added that the Israeli occupation army’s claim that the incursion was to search for “saboteurs” does not change the fact that it targeted the security and safety of civilians, clarifying that the residents came out peacefully to demand the Israeli force’s withdrawal but were met with direct gunfire.
The “Syrian News Channel” reported that residents were fired upon by the Israeli force without resulting in human casualties, indicating that tension prevails in the area following the incursion.
Local sources told “Al-Khat al-Awwal” that the Israeli incursion into Beit Jin village was preceded by the occupation army’s takeover of Tal al-Labbat at the foot of Mount Sheikh.
Israeli army forces had previously penetrated Beit Jin in July and carried out a military operation inside it, which led to the death of a young man and the arrest of six others. Beit Jin is about 10 kilometers from the border with the Golan.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights at the time confirmed that limited clashes occurred between the Israeli force and youths from the town during the Israeli operation.
Incursion into Quneitra
On Sunday, the Israeli army announced it had carried out night operations in southern Syria, allegedly to find combat means.
The army said in a statement that it found a number of weapons depots, explosive devices, Kalashnikov-type weapons, and a large quantity of ammunition, indicating that all these weapons were confiscated. It also announced “the arrest and interrogation of a number of suspects in the area” during these operations.
This comes hours after Israeli forces penetrated the village of Ain al-Abd and the villages of Bariqa and Bir Ajam in the Quneitra countryside.
During the incursion, the Israeli occupation forces occupied the Public Security detachment in the village of Bariqa, confiscated personal belongings of its members, including a mobile phone and a motorcycle, in addition to seizing the entire building.
The Broader Scene: An Imperialist Struggle over Syria
These Zionist incursions cannot be separated from the broader geopolitical scene in Syria and the region. After the fall of the Assad regime in December 2024, Syria entered a fragile transitional phase, becoming an arena for settling regional and international scores.
Imperialist powers, including the Zionist entity, are seeking to maximize their gains at the expense of the sovereignty of the Syrian people and their national unity.
We, in the Revolutionary Left Current in Syria, see this Zionist aggression as part of a broader imperialist struggle over Syria, and we emphasize the necessity of resisting all forms of occupation and foreign intervention, whether from Israel or other imperialist powers. We also call for:
- Building a unified, democratic, decentralized Syria free from all forms of tyranny and occupation.
- Rejecting any foreign military intervention in Syrian affairs.
- Supporting the right of the Syrian people to self-determination and resisting occupation in all its forms.
Resisting Occupation is an Internationalist Responsibility
This new Zionist incursion reminds us that resisting occupation and aggression is a direct responsibility of all revolutionary and progressive forces in Syria and the region. The silence of the “international community” regarding the crimes of occupation, and the practice of double standards in applying international law, are no surprise to anyone.
Armed and peaceful popular resistance, national unity, and internationalist solidarity are the real weapons to confront this aggression and protect the sovereignty of Syria and its people. It is time to put an end to the impunity of the Zionist entity, and it is time for an internationalist uprising that supports the right of the Syrian people and the peoples of the region to freedom, dignity, and liberation from all forms of occupation and colonialism.
