With the return of the oligarchic regime to his chair at the University of Arab regimes, two illusions faded away. The first is that the regime and its loyalists believe that his return could improve people’s living conditions and provide a measure of security. This has not happened, and it will not happen soon. For several reasons, one of them is that the qualitative transformation in the composition of the current bourgeois class is significantly different from what it was when the revolution broke out in March 2011.
Today, the middle class has disappeared, and with it the large bourgeois strata, which used to be enriched by the satisfaction of the junta regime and by close organic ties with it. Over the past ten years, most of them have fled abroad, taking their capital with them. The regime of the junta concentrated what was left of it in the hands of a family minority that controls the joints of the country at all levels, especially political and economic power, in addition to new rich warlords, thieves and horizons, linked to the top of the power pyramid by a relationship of semi-feudal subordination; the relationship of Master and slave.
At the same time, with the floating of the regime, a second illusion that was common among the dependent liberal and conservative opposition components that topped the opposition political scene by strongly supporting this or that regime, regionally and internationally, has also disappeared, being replaced by the regime thanks to the intervention of the states and the regimes that sponsor it.
Over more than a decade, this dependent and correct opposition has proved to be a major cause of the defeat of the revolution and the catastrophe that the Syrian people are experiencing today. What made us describe her as the biggest organizer of defeats. Even worse, this opposition was so vile and vile that it did not surpass the junta regime against which the people revolted on any level, neither moral nor political.
They were two sides of the same coin; disgusting corruption, dependence and opportunism, and complete disregard for the interests of the Syrian people.
So, with the transformations of the New Arab regional order, led, indisputably, by Saudi Arabia and, behind it, the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, which allowed the restoration of the ruling junta regime in Damascus, its university. Parallel to the ongoing rapprochement between the Erdogan regime, which recently won the presidential elections, and the Syrian regime, it seems to this miserable and worn-out opposition, which has been neglected even by the countries to which it belonged, at least since 2019, that it has an opportunity to float itself again in the slave market of regional and international countries, perhaps someone is satisfied with it, it is it’s a real reality for her, absolutely, for Syrians and Syrians.
It is easy to expect that the slave market, or bazaar, attempts by this dependent and shabby opposition to float itself again will flourish these days and in the coming ones. We started to find him quickly. There is a conference planned to be held at the beginning of this month in Geneva to restore the spirit to the dead negotiating body, such as the Constitutional Committee, and there is a conference in Paris, during the same month, to announce the establishment of a “Civic Platform” in the service of Syrian businessman Ayman Asfari, and also, this June will witness a meeting of the so-called Syrian Democratic meeting in Berlin. There will certainly be more “democratic” and“unifying” congresses in the coming period.
It suffices to take a quick look at the personalities (and sometimes gatherings) active in these conferences and other upcoming ones, provided that the initiators of them directly are people from politically dependent oppositions who are always looking for a share in each generator, known for their whims and switching allegiances, which serves their float and their own interests, and used to jump from one political situation to another to issue these projects according to the whim of this or that country. Forgetting that they are responsible for the devastation that has taken place, but there is no shame to those who are calling.
Therefore, we should not expect good from such conferences and from such an opportunistic opposition, nor from the policies of recycling the waste of a dependent, corrupt and failed opposition, which does not have any real representation and does not carry demands for radical change.
We believe that to get out of this deep conviction in the current Syrian situation, there are two main factors that may change the balance of forces in favor of extracting a democratic and social political change for the benefit of the Syrian people،
The first is a mass uprising of Syrians inside the regime’s areas, and on the whole Syrian territory, demanding freedom and a decent life, although its own conditions are not available now, but as the experiences of history have made us, it is always difficult to predict its timing, it comes by surprise in any case. He is the basis of our compass and does not lose sight of us and our activity as a party.
The second factor is the Democratic autonomous administration in the North and east of Syria, which constitutes an actual fulcrum for the Syrian democratic struggle, and which must be supported as a locomotive for the struggle of Syrians for peace, independence, the establishment of a decentralized democratic system and policies of fair distribution of wealth and social justice, and as a national project for all Syrians.
Outside the common political mold of liberal and dependent oppositions, the struggle of the Syrian masses, although it is arduous, long and difficult, but it will not stop at this or that station, taking advantage of the experiences of many years of struggle, and focusing on the need to build a mass revolutionary political leadership, will and must win. It is in this process and for the sake of the power of the workers and toilers that the struggle of our party, the Revolutionary Left current in Syria, falls.
